The Magic Chariot, the Sword, and the Seer: The princess of Magadh Desh, Chandralekha, was very beautiful. Many princes wanted to marry her, but she always said no. One day, her mother asked, “Do you want to marry or not?” Chandralekha said, “Yes, I will marry, but only when I find the right one.” Her mother asked, “Is there no right one among them?”
Chandralekha said, “No.” “Then who is the right for you?” her mother asked. Chandralekha replied, “Someone strong who can protect his wife.” Her mother said, “OK, you decide who you want to marry.” Chandralekha agreed.
One day, a prince came with a proposal. Chandralekha asked, “What is your special skill?” The prince said, “I can see the past, present, and future.” The princess did not reply.
Another prince came and she asked the same question. He said, “I have a chariot that can go anywhere—on water, in the air, on roads, and I built it myself.” Again, Chandralekha did not reply.
Another prince came and she asked him the same question. He said, “I have a sword that never misses its target and no one can escape from it.”
More princes came, but Chandralekha couldn’t decide. Her mother was worried. Chandralekha promised to decide the next day.
The next day, the three princes with special skills arrived. The first prince was Veerendra, the second was Udayaveer, and the third was Dhananjaya. Suddenly, Chandralekha disappeared. Everyone was worried.
Veerendra was asked to find her. He did some calculations and said, “A demon has taken her to his palace in the Aravalli hills.” He drew a map of the palace.
Udayaveer said, “I can take us to the palace with my chariot.” Dhananjaya said, “I will kill the demon with my sword.” Veerendra and Dhananjaya sat on Udayaveer’s chariot and they reached the demon’s palace. Veerendra said, “The princess is in her room, crying, and the demon will be killed by Dhananjaya.”
All three attacked the demon. Dhananjaya killed the demon with one strike of his sword. The demon’s magic palace disappeared, and they brought the princess back. Now, all three claimed the princess.
Veerendra said, “If I hadn’t drawn the map, they wouldn’t have found the princess.” Udayaveer said, “If I didn’t have the chariot, they couldn’t have reached there.” Dhananjaya said, “If I hadn’t killed the demon, the map and chariot wouldn’t have mattered. The princess is mine.”
The princess said she was grateful to all of them and asked them to decide among themselves.
Now the question is: Who has the right to marry the princess?
Ans: “The princess should be with Dhananjaya. The one who protects is the true husband. Dhananjaya killed the demon, so he is the true protector.”
