The Clever Servant: Once upon a time, there was a man who decided to work for a rich landlord. They agreed that he would work for three years, and in return, he would get three meals a day. At the end of the three years, he would be paid.
One day, the landlord asked the man to go to the river and fetch some water. But the man, being a little lazy, pretended not to hear and went off to sleep instead. This made the landlord very angry, so he decided not to give the man any food for three whole days.
On the fourth day, the landlord had a new task for the man. He sent him to the forest to bring back some firewood. In the forest, the man saw a big bear. Instead of being scared, the man had a clever idea. He harnessed the bear to a sled, filled it with firewood, and brought it back home.
When the landlord and his wife saw the man with the bear, they were very frightened. But the man, being clever, saw an opportunity. He asked for his three years’ wages and all the food he would have eaten during that time. He threatened to let the bear loose on them if they didn’t give him what he wanted.
The scared landlord and his wife didn’t want to deal with the bear, so they gave the man everything he asked for. With his cleverness, the man left, leading a comfortable life with his well-earned rewards. And so, he lived happily ever after.
