Klaas and the Cheese Dream: Klaas was a young boy from the Netherlands, who lived happily on a farm with his family. They had plenty of food to eat, like tasty bread, potatoes, and Klaas’s favorite—cheese. Klaas loved cheese more than anything else. During meals, he would always try to get more cheese from his sisters, but his mother would scold him.
“Klaas, if you eat any more cheese, you might burst!” his mother warned.
Even when his stomach was full, Klaas still wanted more cheese. He was a good boy in every other way, but his love for cheese always got him into trouble.
One night, after being sent to bed early for taking his sisters’ cheese again, Klaas lay in his bed, feeling upset. He stared out of the window and suddenly noticed little lights dancing around a tree in the garden. Then, he heard a soft, tinkling voice saying, “There’s plenty of cheese. Come with us.”
Klaas had heard stories about fairies in the woods. Curious, he quietly slipped out of the house and followed the voice. Under the tree, he found himself surrounded by dozens of tiny fairies. “Come dance with us,” they sang. “There is plenty of cheese here!”
Klaas danced all night with the fairies until the sun began to rise. Suddenly, he felt very sleepy and drifted off into a dream. In his dream, he was surrounded by hundreds of different kinds of cheese. The cheese was delicious, and Klaas ate until he was full. But the cheese kept coming, piling up around him until it started to bury him! Klaas screamed in fear and suddenly woke up.
He found himself lying on the grass under the tree. There were no fairies, and no cheese anywhere. Klaas never told anyone about his strange, cheesy night, and from that day on, he only ate cheese in small amounts!
Moral: Too much of anything is bad, even something you love, can be bad for you.
